  • Some Humana Medicare Advantage plans may help cover dental implants. Most Humana Medicare plans cover a range of dental benefits, so it’s important to compare the benefits and costs of multiple plans available where you live.

Dental implants are a necessary expense for many older adults. However, some insurance companies consider dental implants to be cosmetic rather than medically necessary, and thus do not offer coverage for the procedure.

But what about Humana?

Some Humana Medicare Advantage plans may cover dental implants, though plan benefits can vary. Some plans may fully cover dental implants, some may not cover the cost of a dental implant itself but will help pay for other aspects of the surgery, and some other plans may not cover the procedure at all.

Read on to learn more about Humana coverage of dental implants and other dental benefits you may be able to find in a plan from Humana.

Do Humana Dental Plans Cover Implants?

Medicare Advantage (Medicare Part C) is a way to receive your Original Medicare (Medicare Part A and Part B) benefits through a private company like Humana, with the bonus of receiving coverage for things not included in Original Medicare. Dental care is one of the extra benefits offered by most Medicare Advantage plans, such as those from Humana.

We reviewed the evidence of coverage documents – summary documents of everything the plan covers – for several Humana Medicare plans and found no specific mention of dental implants being either covered or not covered. However, many Humana Medicare Advantage plans do cover complete and partial dentures, crowns and more. Depending on your plan, you may be able to have many of the costs for a dental implant procedure covered, even if not in full.

You can talk with a licensed insurance agent who can help you examine exactly how certain dental procedures are covered by a plan.

Do Humana Individual, Family, Group Employee and Federal Employee Plans Cover Dental Implants?

Humana offers health insurance to federal employees and retirees, and a Humana dental plan for federal workers includes coverage of dental implants as part of its prosthetics benefits. Surgical implants are covered once per tooth over a plan member’s lifetime, and additional benefits are available for implant removals, repairs, cleanings and other related services.

Humana is among the leaders of workplace insurance providers, and the company’s group dental plans provide coverage for major services like crowns, bridges, dentures and more. However, dental implants are not mentioned in the Humana group dental insurance information we reviewed.

It appears unlikely that Humana individual and family dental insurance plans cover dental implants.

The Humana Complete Dental plan in North Carolina lists “Any type of implant and all related services, including crowns or the prosthetic device attached to it” as a service that the plan doesn’t cover. The same goes for the Loyalty Plus plan in California. It’s important to note that these are simply examples, and there may be Humana plan options available where you live that cover more than what these example plans cover.

How Do I Find a Humana Medicare Plan That Covers Dental Care?

Connect with a Medicare agent who is licensed to sell plans in your area. Specify to the agent that you are seeking coverage for dental implants, and the agent will be able to review the available plans to see if dental implants are included in any of them.

A licensed agent can also help you compare the other Humana Medicare plan benefits that may be available, such as other dental benefits, hearing, vision, prescription drug coverage, non-emergency transportation, gym and wellness program memberships and more. You can also compare Humana Medicare plans online for free, with no obligation to enroll.
