In this article...
  • Find Cigna in-network doctors who accept your Cigna Medicare plan to get covered health services at lower out-of-pocket costs. You can also compare Cigna plans online to find out if Cigna Medicare plans or another local plan cover Medicare doctors near you.

Most Cigna Medicare Advantage (Medicare Part C) health insurance plans utilize a network of participating health care providers who agree to certain plans and terms of Cigna plans. These preferred providers are considered in network, and you typically pay lower out-of-pocket Medicare costs when you visit providers who are part of your Cigna plan network.

Compare Medicare plans available where you live to find out if any Cigna Medicare Advantage plans work with your preferred doctors, hospitals, specialists and other providers. You may find plans from different insurance companies that your doctor may accept, and you may be able to enroll in or switch to a new plan that saves you money and covers your doctor.

Can I Find Doctors Near Me That Accept Cigna?

What Is a Cigna In-Network Doctor?

The Cigna provider network includes more than 1.5 million health care providers and facilities, including 99% of all pharmacies in the U.S.

A Cigna in-network doctor is a health care provider or facility that accepts Cigna insurance plans.

Cigna in-network providers can include:

  • General practitioners
  • Specialists
  • Pharmacists
  • Hospitals
  • Pharmacies
  • Durable medical equipment suppliers

Out-of-network doctors are those that do not contract with Cigna and do not accept your Cigna Medicare plan.

When Should I See a Cigna Medicare Network Doctor?

You will typically want to visit Cigna in-network doctors whenever possible if you have a Cigna HMO or PPO Medicare plan.

Cigna individual and family health insurance plans and Medicare Advantage plans utilize a network of participating health care providers to administer care.

  • HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) plans typically restrict your covered care to in-network doctors.

  • PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) plans allow members to receive some coverage for care outside of the Cigna network, but you usually pay lower out-of-pocket costs if you see Cigna Medicare doctors.

Emergency medical care is covered at the same rate, whether it is administered by in-network or out-of-network providers.

Medicare Part D plans, which provide coverage for prescription drugs, often have different coverage limits when you get your Medicare drugs at Cigna “preferred pharmacies” vs. other pharmacies, similar to how a network works.

Cigna Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) plans don’t use plan networks. Medicare Supplement plans help pay for Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) costs like deductibles, copays and coinsurance, Cigna Medicare Supplement plans are accepted by any health care provider who accepts Original Medicare.

It’s important to note that Medicare Supplement plans and Medicare Advantage plans are very different, and you can’t have both types of plan at the same time.

How Do I Find a Cigna Plan That Accepts My Doctor?

You can compare Medicare Advantage plans side by side online, and you can search plans to find out whether they cover your favorite doctors, hospitals, specialists and other providers. You may be able to find a Cigna Medicare Advantage plan that accepts your doctor, or you may find plans from other companies that are a better fit for your needs.
