  • Find out what Medicare Easy Pay is, how it works and how it can be a convenient, paperless option to use when you need to pay for Medicare-related expenses.

Medicare Easy Pay is the federal government's free, electronic payment option that lets you have Medicare premium payments deducted automatically from a checking or savings account every month.

Many Medicare beneficiaries choose this option because it's convenient. It means they don't have to remember to pay their monthly premiums; they just have to make sure enough funds are in the account where the premium amount is deducted from.

Who Can Use Medicare Easy Pay?

Medicare beneficiaries who receive their bill for Medicare premiums from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) can sign up for and use the Easy Pay system at any time during their enrollment.

There is one exception, however. If your Medicare premium bill comes from the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB), you can't use the Easy Pay system and have to continue paying for Medicare by mail.

Signing Up for Medicare Easy Pay

Medicare Easy Pay sign up is simple. Fill out an Authorization Agreement for Pre-authorized Payments (SF-5510), which can be downloaded in PDF form in English or Spanish.

If you need assistance filling out some of the form fields, CMS.gov offers assistance with additional information you might need to provide and what you can expect after your form SF-5510 is accepted.

Completed Easy Pay forms are mailed to the Medicare Premium Collection Center, and the address is provided on the form.

After Signing Up for Medicare Easy Pay

After your form is accepted for Medicare Easy Pay, you should receive a Medicare Premium Bill in the mail. Note that this is not an actual bill you need to pay; it's a notice telling you the amount that's going to be deducted from your bank account. The amount is usually deducted on or around the 20th of each month.

If your premium amount ever changes, the amount is automatically deducted from your bank account — you don't need to do anything further.
