  • Anthem has a large network of dental providers that accept standalone dental plans and Anthem Medicare Advantage plans that include dental coverage. Learn more about Anthem Medicare plans, the benefits they may offer and how you can find plans that may be available where you live.

Anthem and the Anthem family of brands (such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Empire, Anthem Blue Cross and others) provide dental coverage and other health benefits in a number of states through many of their Medicare Advantage (Medicare Part C) plans.

The Anthem network of dental providers includes thousands of dentists, orthodontists, suppliers of dental equipment and more.

Finding an Anthem Dental Provider Near You

Anthem makes it easy to find dental providers. Anthem members may log into an online portal to find participating dentists, dental offices and more. Non-members can choose their state and see a directory of participating dental providers in their state and zip code.

Use the company’s online search tool to find Anthem dental providers near you.

Anthem Dental Coverage

Anthem dental coverage can be found as a benefit of certain group or individual dental plans, or as part of an Anthem Medicare Advantage plan.

Medicare Advantage, or Medicare part C, is a form of private Medicare insurance sold by companies like Anthem. The plans are required by law to include all of the same benefits as Original Medicare (Medicare Part A and Part B). On top of that basic coverage requirement, Medicare Advantage plans are then able to provide some extra benefits not found in Original Medicare.

Among the most popular extra benefits is dental coverage. Original Medicare does not provide coverage for routine dental care and only covers dental services in rare circumstances. But most Medicare Advantage plans include basic dental care, including those found in the Anthem plan lineup.

Some of the services that may be covered by an Anthem dental provider include:

  • Exams
  • X-rays
  • Cleanings
  • Fluoride treatments
  • Fillings
  • Extractions
  • Root canals
  • Crowns
  • Dentures
  • Bridges
  • Implants

Anthem Dental Costs

The dental coverage found in an Anthem Medicare Advantage plan does not require an additional premium, as the dental care is included as one of the plan’s benefits at no added cost. There may or may not be a premium for the plan as a whole.

Using an Anthem dental plan at a provider may require you to first satisfy an annual deductible and require copayments or coinsurance for remaining balances. Costs may vary by plan, so be sure to review all of your plan options first in order to find the best fit for your budget.

Enrolling in Anthem Blue Cross Dental Coverage

There are generally few restrictions for enrolling in a standalone dental plan through Anthem or other carriers. You can sign up for Anthem dental plans at any time of the year and do not need to be enrolled in an Anthem health insurance plan in order to do so.

For dental coverage through a Medicare Advantage plan, you must enroll during certain times of the year such as when you first become eligible for Original Medicare or during the Annual Enrollment Period that takes place each fall. You also must be enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Part B and be at least 65 years old for most (but not all) plans. See our Medicare enrollment guide for more information about eligibility and enrollment dates.

A licensed Medicare insurance agent can help you gather information about available plans in your area from Anthem and other carriers that include dental coverage and can produce a list of local dental providers who accept Anthem insurance. Reviewing your options is the best way to ensure you enroll in a plan that suits the needs of your dental care and budget.
