What Is the Best Aetna Medicare Supplement Plan in Texas?

Plan F is widely considered the best Medicare Supplement plan because it offers the most coverage. However, due to federal legislation, Plan F is only available to beneficiaries who became eligible for Medicare before Jan. 1, 2020.

If you do not qualify for Aetna Plan F, then Plan G is the option providing the greatest amount of coverage, and it’s becoming the most popular Medigap plan.

Plan G includes all the same coverage as Plan F except for the Part B deductible, which is just $233 per year in 2022. And Plan G does not have the eligibility restrictions of Plan F.

Do You Have to Live in Texas to Enroll in Aetna Medicare Supplement Plans?

Aetna sells Medicare Supplement plans all over the U.S., but you may only enroll in a plan that is sold where you live. Plan boundaries are typically defined by county or zip code.

If you split your time between Texas and another state, you are only eligible to enroll in a plan in whichever state is determined to be your primary residence. Your plan coverage will travel with you, however, as there are no network restrictions in Medicare Supplement plans.

Any doctor, provider or hospital who accepts Medicare will accept your Aetna Medicare Supplement plan, in Texas or any state.

When Can I Enroll in an Aetna Medicare Supplement Plan in Texas?

Texas has no special rules about the timing of Medicare Supplement enrollment outside of the standard rules set forth by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Medicare beneficiaries in the state of Texas can enroll in an Aetna Medicare Supplement plan at any time throughout the year. However, doing so outside of your Medigap Open Enrollment Period leaves you subject to medical underwriting such as health questionnaires or physical exams that can increase your rates.

If you enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan during your Medigap Open Enrollment Period, Aetna will not be able to base your rates on your health and you will be offered the same rate as other incoming customers.

Your Medigap Open Enrollment Period begins the day that you are at least 65 years old and are first enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B, and it lasts for six consecutive months.

Can You Buy Aetna Medicare Supplement Plans in Texas if You Are Under 65 Years Old?

Not all states permit you to purchase a Medicare Supplement Insurance plan if you are under 65 years old but have qualified for Medicare because of a disability.

But some states have laws that require any insurance company that sells Medigap plans to offer at least one plan to Medicare beneficiaries under the age of 65. And Texas happens to be one of these states.

In the state of Texas, any insurance company – including Aetna – that sells Medicare Supplement plans must offer at least one plan to Medicare beneficiaries under the age of 65 who have qualified for the program because of a disability. An insurance company in Texas may offer more than one plan to those under 65 at their own discretion.
