When Are You Eligible for Senior Discounts?

The minimum age for senior discounts varies from one business to another. Some extend discounts to those as young as 50 while others have savings for those aged 65 and over. Discounts may be based solely on age, and all you have to do to save money is show your driver’s license or Medicare card, but in some cases, they’re only available to those with AARP memberships, which are available to anyone aged 50 and over for $12 per year.

Retailer and Grocery Senior Discounts

Your local store may have special savings for senior citizens. Some retailers offer senior discounts every day while others have special weekly savings.

Goodwill Senior Savings Day	10% off the transaction	Those aged 60 and over can get an extra 10% off their in-store purchase on Tuesdays. This discount isn’t available at Goodwill outlet locations.
Harris Teeter	5% off the transaction	Those aged 60 and over get 5% off most purchases every Thursday with their VIC cards. Make sure to ask for this discount at the register.
Hy-Vee	5% off the transaction	Hy-Vee has a Senior Citizen Discount Club Card for those aged 55 and up, which can be used for an extra 5% off every Wednesday. Visit Customer Service to sign up for your card.
JOANN Senior Discount Day	20% off the transaction	JOANN provides a 20% discount for in-store customers aged 55 and over on scheduled Senior Discount Days. The discount can be used on regular-priced items, sales and clearance items. JOANN senior coupons are not offered but the 20% discount is available on designated days.
Kohl’s	15% off the transaction	Kohl’s provides a 15% in-store discount to older adults on Wednesdays. To qualify, individuals must be at least 60 years old. The discount can be used along with other dollar-off coupons such as Kohl’s Cash and Kohl’s Rewards. The dollar coupon is deducted first, and the 15% is taken off the remaining balance.
New Seasons Markets	10% off the transaction	On Senior Wednesdays, New Seasons Market shoppers aged 65 and over save 10% on most items. Be sure to tell your cashier that you qualify for the discount.
Ross Dress for Less	10% of the transaction	Ross Dress for Less offers 10% off on Tuesdays for those aged 55 and over. Discounts are available for in-store customers. Individuals must show a government-issued ID at checkout.
Michaels	10% off the transaction	In-store and online shoppers aged 55 and over get 10% off their total purchase every day at Michaels. To get the discount, you must create a free Michaels Rewards account.
Piggly Wiggly	5% off the transaction	Piggly Wiggly shoppers aged 60 and over get 5% off their purchase every Wednesday.
Red, White, and Blue Thrift Stores	50% off the transaction	Shoppers aged 55 and over save 50% on their in-store purchases every Wednesday.
Rite Aid	20% off the transaction	Rite Aid’s Wellness65 program is open to those aged 65 and over. Through this program, seniors get 20% off their purchases on the first Wednesday of each month along with free pharmacist consultations.
Savers	Discount varies by store location	Savers shoppers who are at least 55 years old receive discounts on their purchases every Tuesday.
Tanger Outlets	Up to $1,000 in savings	AARP members get coupon booklets for Tanger Outlets that provide hundreds of dollars in savings.
