  • Learn about Humana Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) plans, including what they cover, how much they cost and more. You may be able to find popular plans like Plan G, Plan N or Plan F where you live.

Humana is one of the leaders in private Medicare insurance, and much of that success can be credited to the company’s Medicare Supplement Insurance plans. Depending on where you live, you may be able to apply for a Humana Medicare Supplement plan (also called Medigap), such as the popular Plan G or – if you’re eligible – Plan F.

Below we outline more of what Humana Medicare Supplement plans cost, what they cover and the best time to apply for a plan.

What Do Humana Medicare Supplement Plans Cover?

Medicare Supplement Insurance, also known as Medigap, can cover many of the out-of-pocket costs that are tied to Original Medicare (Medicare Part A and Part B). A Humana Medicare Supplement plan, like all Medigap plans, works alongside your Medicare coverage to help fill in the “gaps” when you have to pay Medicare deductibles, copays and other costs for covered hospital stays, doctor’s office visits, treatments, therapy and more.

Medicare Supplement plans are standardized by the federal government, so the coverage provided by a particular Humana Medigap plan is the same as the coverage offered by another insurance carrier selling the same plan, though each company may offer other additional benefits or discounts.

The Medicare Supplement plans comparison chart below details the benefits offered by each of the 10 standardized Medicare Supplement Insurance plans sold in most states.

2. Plans F and G also offer a high deductible plan which has an annual deductible of $2,800 in 2024. Once the annual deductible is met, the plan pays 100% of covered services for the rest of the year. The high deductible Plan F is not available to new beneficiaries who became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020.
3. Plan K has an out-of-pocket yearly limit of $7,060 in 2024. Plan L has an out-of-pocket yearly limit of $3,530 in 2024.
4. Plan N pays 100% of the Part B coinsurance, except for a copayment of up to $20 for some office visits and up to $50 for emergency room visits that don’t result in an inpatient admission.

Which Medicare Supplement Plans Does Humana Sell?

Depending on where you live, Humana may offer up to eight of the available 10 standardized Medicare Supplement plans in most states. Plan selection can vary by location, so it’s not guaranteed that all eight plans will be available where you live.

The Medicare Supplement plans sold by Humana include:

In addition, Humana sells different versions of some plans. For example, in some areas Humana sells a standard Plan A and a Plan A that includes a dental and vision benefit package. The dental and vision add-on may be available for other Humana Medicare Supplement plans as well.

There are also high-deductible versions available for Plan F and Plan G. The high-deductible version offers a lower monthly premium in exchange for an annual deductible, allowing an additional option for beneficiaries.

Below is a look at a few of the more popular Humana Medicare Supplement plans.

Have Medicare questions?

Talk to a licensed agent today to find a plan that fits your needs.

Humana Medicare Supplement Plan F

Plan F owns the highest share of Medigap enrollees. This the most comprehensive plan and the only plan to offer coverage in every benefit area. You can see from the chart above how Plan F compares to other Medigap plans.

Plan F is now closed to new Medicare beneficiaries. Federal legislation has barred anyone who became eligible for Medicare on or after Jan. 1, 2020, from enrolling in Plan F. Only those who were eligible for Medicare prior to that date may apply for Plan F if it’s available where you live.

This mandate also applies to Medicare Supplement Plan C. If you had either Plan F or Plan C before 2020, you can keep your plan.

Humana Medicare Supplement Plan G

Plan G is the Medigap policy offering the most complete coverage after Plan F. Plan G covers everything Plan F does except for the Medicare Part B deductible.

Unlike Plan F, Plan G is open to new beneficiaries. And with new enrollees barred from joining Plan F, Plan G is in position to one day take over most of the market share from Plan F.

Humana Medicare Supplement Plan N

Plan N remains a popular option among beneficiaries because it offers coverage for basic needs while using a unique payment structure that helps keep premiums lower.

The plan covers Medicare Part B copayments but requires payments of up to $20 for certain office visits and up to $50 for emergency room visits that don’t result in an inpatient admission.

Where Are Humana Medicare Supplement Plans Sold?

Humana Medicare Supplement plans can be found in 47 states and Washington D.C. The only states where you may not find a Humana plan are Minnesota, Massachusetts and Wisconsin.

That’s because Medicare Supplement Insurance is standardized differently in those three states. If you live in one of these states, contact a licensed insurance agent to learn about your Medicare Supplement Insurance options

Most states have at least five Humana Medigap plans available while the company’s full lineup of eight plans is available in many states.

How Much Does Humana Supplemental Insurance Cost?

What Is the Best Humana Medicare Supplement Plan for 2023?

Choosing the best Humana Medicare Supplement plan is highly subjective, as everyone’s needs and budgets are different. Ultimately, the best plan is the one that works best for each individual case.

It’s tough to argue against Medigap Plan G. The plan covers everything except the annual Medicare Part B deductible, which is $240 in 2024. And as you can see from the table above, the cost of Plan G can be competitive with plans offering less coverage in certain markets.

When Can You Enroll in Humana Medicare Supplement Plans?

You may enroll in a Medicare Supplement Insurance plan at any time. However, the best time to do so is during your Medigap Open Enrollment Period.

This period begins the day you are enrolled in Medicare Part B and at least 65 years old, and it lasts for six consecutive months. The reason this is the preferred time to enroll is because you have guaranteed issue rights during this period.

That means insurance carriers are not allowed to use medical underwriting and charge you a higher premium because of certain health conditions. But once this period ends and unless you apply during another time when you have guaranteed issue rights, insurance companies reserve the right to perform underwriting and potentially charge you a higher rate or deny you coverage based on your health.
