  • Use this 2023-2024 U.S. bank holiday calendar to find out if banks are open today where you live.

Maybe you have the weekday off from work and plan to run a few errands. But one problem with being off work for a holiday can be that many of the places you would like to go, such as a bank, are also closed.

Most banks adhere to the federal holiday schedule observed by the U.S. Federal Reserve which is as follows:

  • New Year’s Day (Jan. 1)
  • MLK Day (third Monday of January)
  • Presidents Day (third Monday of February)
  • Memorial Day (last Monday of May)
  • Juneteenth (June 19)
  • Independence Day (July 4)
  • Labor Day (first Monday in September)
  • Columbus Day (second Monday in October)
  • Veterans Day (Nov. 11)
  • Thanksgiving Day (the fourth Thursday of November)
  • Christmas Day (Dec. 25)

Should a federal holiday fall on a Sunday, banks will be closed on the Monday after (the following day). But when a federal holiday falls on a Saturday, banks remain open both on Monday and the preceding Friday.

What Are Typical Bank Hours?

Most banks open between 8am and 9am and close between 4pm and 6pm Monday through Friday.

Banks are typically closed on Sundays. Most banks are open on Saturdays but often with limited hours.

What to Do if Your Bank Is Closed

If your bank is closed because of a holiday or a weekend, you may not be entirely out of luck. Below are a few possible options.

  • Grocery store branches
Many grocery stores have a small bank branch at the front of the store. Sometimes these branches observe the same holiday schedule as the grocery store itself, which can mean they are open even when other nearby branches are not.

  • ATM locations
ATMs are always open and you can perform some of the same actions as you would at a physical bank such as making deposits and withdrawals.

  • Online banking
Online banking has surged in popularity in recent years and allows you to move money around, deposit checks and more. And many banks now have mobile apps for an even easier online experience.
